All about Verbal Reasoning

The GMAT Focus Verbal Reasoning consists of Reading Comprehension and Critical Reasoning Questions. In reading comprehension, your ability to understand complex concepts and ideas, recognise relationships between different parts of the same text, identify inferences from the text, identify main points and supporting details, recognise logical structures of texts and identify stylistic elements in texts are tested.

In critical reasoning, your ability to identify assumptions and flaws in arguments are commonly tested. In addition, there are several questions that test you on recognising componential parts of arguments and making inferences.

About Quantitative Reasoning

This section evaluates your fundamental understanding of algebra and arithmetic and your ability to use this knowledge to tackle problems. It consists of 21 Problem Solving questions.

These questions demand familiarity with basic arithmetic and elementary algebra. Correctly answering them depends on your logical and analytical abilities rather than just mathematical skills. Calculators are not permitted during this section.

About Data Insights

The Data Insights section evaluates a candidate’s proficiency in analyzing and interpreting data, applying it to real-world business scenarios, and measuring digital and data literacy—skills highly relevant and in demand in today’s business environment.

This section comprises 20 questions that challenge you to evaluate how various sources and types of information—graphic, numeric, and verbal—interrelate and can be used to make informed decisions. These questions may involve mathematics, data analysis, verbal reasoning, or a combination of these skills. An on-screen calculator is available for use during this section.
